vpns-and-default-gateways.html
Think i might finally got it boys. A vpn that allows remote acces into the LAN. trouble is it’s still a who knows if it’ll work kinda deal. I’ve tested it a little from my phone just jacking into this webserver and it worked alright. The trouble is google saves pages you’ve visited into a cache for faster loading. I’ll do some more testing on that later.
Default gateways. The reason I think this worked with my phone is because when I vpn’d to my network I should’ve had a local address of 10.8.0.x and then still connected to 192.168.1.x
There is a slight problem with this however. If someone connects to the vpn they’ll be able to connect to internal virtual ip’s that reside on the 10.8.0.x system (hopefully, i could connect to yet another webserver on the virtual network anyway) but if they wanted to connect to the 192.168.1.x and their gateway resides with the same addresses I think this might cause some issues.
simple enough fix I’ll try one day: should be able to change the default gateway to apply ip’s on a different range, something like 192.168.5.x
Very up in the air, the important thing is that people can connect to each other int nhe virtual LAN. if this truly works it would mean we no longer have to port forward games and if you can connect to my internal LAN you’d be able to samba into my filedump servers of which there are now two. The main NAS which has 2 hdd’s in a raid for data redundancy and this webserver which does not have data redundancy but still has all the files that are easy to upload to through the upload page on this site.
So yeah; the NAS thing is a bonus, if the VPN works standard than there shouldn’t be any problem getting to the playing of games… like insurgency… like valheim… like minecraft… like cry of fear? did I read that right?
Thanks for listening.
